Becamex TPHCM appoints ex-Ninh Binh coach, sets promotion goal

The club Becamex TPHCM has officially confirmed the appointment of coach Gerard Albadalejo Castano as head coach, preparing for the upcoming season with the objective of vying for promotion and making a comeback to the highest level of Vietnamese football.

According to the club's announcement, selecting the Spanish tactician is part of a methodical and long-term squad development plan.

The club's management expects Mr. Gerard to build a squad with strong ambition, resilience, and a high fighting spirit to achieve the goal of returning to the V.League.

Born in 1983 in Barcelona, Gerard Albadalejo holds a UEFA Pro license and has over a decade of coaching experience in Spain. After serving as an assistant at Lleida Esportiu, he went on to manage Lleida, Orihuela, CE Europa, Atlético Saguntino, and Badalona. His most notable achievement was eliminating Real Sociedad in the 2017/18 Copa del Rey with Lleida Esportiu, while establishing a highly organized, high-pressing style of play.

Mr. Gerard is no stranger to Vietnamese football, having previously coached Ninh Binh in the V.League. During his tenure, the Spanish tactician was highly praised for his modern football philosophy, prioritizing ball possession, high pressing, and youth development.

With the arrival of coach Gerard Albadalejo Castano, Becamex TPHCM hopes to establish a new professional identity, aiming for a successful season and achieving the promotion target.

Setting aside the disappointment of relegation, Becamex TPHCM is looking ahead to the 2026/27 First Division season with many positive signs.

Key players such as Minh Khoa, Vĩ Hào, Việt Cường, and Tùng Quốc are still under contract with the club. They are all united in striving for the best possible results with the team in the new season.

According to the plan, in early July, Becamex TPHCM will reconvene, and at that time the management will introduce coach Gerard Albadalejo to the entire team.

Having retained nearly all of its strongest squad for the 2026/27 First Division, Becamex TPHCM is aiming for the best results, promising to deliver quality matches for the fans.
