The 2026 Wimbledon Championships are about to begin, and Chinese star Zheng Qinwen will face her "nemesis" Siniakova in the first round. On June 29 Beijing time, Zheng shared her thoughts and pre-match preparation regarding the first-round encounter with Siniakova in a pre-Wimbledon interview.

Regarding drawing Siniakova for the third time at Wimbledon, Zheng said with resignation: "I wouldn't say I'm surprised—it feels more like fate has arranged it for me. This is my third time facing her here, and I feel like maybe heaven is giving me another chance to see if I can finally beat her this time."

"I think the draw must be done by a machine. If it were done by a human, there's no way it could be this precise. After all, the draw is big enough that I could meet her or someone else. And since I'm not a seeded player now, it's possible to face anyone."

Previously, Zheng had lost all three of her grass-court matches against Siniakova—two at Wimbledon and one in Berlin.

In response, Zheng pointed out that Siniakova's serve is difficult to handle: "She has a very unusual ball toss, which might mess up my timing. This time I'll definitely pay more attention to that. Also, I think her slice is very aggressive on grass because the bounce is lower, making the slice more effective."
