Having been examined and his injury assessed, midfielder Ngo Dang Khoa will not remain with the Vietnam national team for the upcoming training session ahead of the ASEAN Cup 2026.
The injury occurred while Ngo Dang Khoa was competing for his club. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) results revealed a grade 2 meniscus tear. Throughout the national team gathering, the player was unable to engage in professional training, focusing instead on rehabilitation and physical therapy as prescribed by the medical staff.
Medical experts have assessed that persisting with training and matches before complete recovery could lead to more severe damage, potentially a grade 3 meniscus tear necessitating surgery.
On the afternoon of June 27, head coach Kim Sang Sik held a direct conversation with Ngo Dang Khoa. Following consultation with the player and the medical department, the coaching staff opted to facilitate his return to his club for ongoing treatment and rehabilitation.

Going back to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Club will provide Ngo Dang Khoa with consistent care and therapy, with the goal of recovering quickly and getting back on the pitch.
Among the three debutants summoned by head coach Kim Sang Sik for the national team's pre-ASEAN Cup 2026 camp, Ngo Dang Khoa, despite being sidelined by injury, saw his first call-up as a significant achievement in his young career at age 19.
The coaching team wishes Ngo Dang Khoa a speedy recovery so that he can resume his ambition of serving the Vietnam national team in the coming times.
In addition to Ngo Dang Khoa, other players such as Do Duy Manh, Le Ngoc Bao, and Khuat Van Khang are still undergoing recovery. On the other hand, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, and Patrik Le Giang have resumed full training with the squad.
Scheduled to leave for South Korea on July 2, the Vietnam national team will embark on a training trip lasting close to two weeks. This phase is seen as vital preparation for Kim Sang Sik's squad in their quest to retain the ASEAN Cup 2026 title.
Ngo Dang Khoa's absence from this training camp implies that his opportunity to earn favor with the coaching staff will be deferred to subsequent call-ups, after the young striker has completely healed and returned to peak performance.
