La Liga quick signing: Real Madrid triggers €20 million release clause to sign Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries.

The Premier League's purchasing power is now incredibly strong. Relegation-threatened teams in the Premier League have the same spending power as title contenders in other top four leagues, making the overall strength of those leagues inferior to the Premier League. The same holds for La Liga's giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have adopted a quick signing policy. Barcelona directly spent over €80 million total to sign Newcastle's English forward Anthony Gordon, while Real Madrid went even more direct, paying the release clause to sign Inter Milan's Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries.

According to the latest report from Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Denzel Dumfries is about to join Real Madrid, as the club is set to activate the €20 million release clause in his contract with Inter Milan. Dumfries has already reached a personal agreement with Real Madrid, and the deal will soon take formal steps.

Dumfries came through the youth academy of Sparta Rotterdam, then moved to Heerenveen and PSV Eindhoven. He joined Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 for a transfer fee of €14.25 million and has performed at a very high level. In his Inter career so far, he has made 207 appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 23 assists, truly a goal-scoring defender. This type of player is very much in José Mourinho's style. During his five years at Inter, Dumfries has won two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia titles, three Italian Super Cups, and reached the Champions League final twice, but finished as runner-up both times.

Dumfries is currently 30 years old, 1.88m tall, plays as a right-back, and is especially suited for the right wing-back role in a three-man defense. His contract with Inter runs until 2028, and his market value on Transfermarkt is €25 million. This season, he has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. He is also a starter for the Netherlands national team, with 71 caps, scoring 11 goals and providing 22 assists as a defender. He is about to represent the Oranje in the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
