The workshop on FIFA's talent discovery and selection criteria, co-hosted by VFF and the World Football Federation (FIFA), commences.
On the afternoon of June 1st, the opening ceremony of the workshop on talent identification and selection criteria, jointly organized by VFF and FIFA, took place at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF). According to the plan, the workshop will be held in two phases: in Hanoi from June 1 to June 3, and in Ho Chi Minh City from June 4 to June 6.
In his opening speech at the workshop, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan – member of the FIFA Competitions Committee, AFC Standing Committee member, and VFF President – expressed his delight after VFF worked with representatives of the FIFA Football Development Office, the support programs for Vietnamese football in general and youth training in particular have been planned for implementation by FIFA.These projects focus on improving the quality of human resources, as well as identifying and selecting young talents.
VFF has implemented a comprehensive range of plans for selecting and developing youth tournaments, achieving impressive successes such as eight Vietnamese youth teams qualifying for the Asian finals. Among them, the Vietnam U23 team won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the bronze medal at the Asian U23 Championship, and the Vietnam U17 team qualifying for the U17 World Cup for the first time. He expressed hope that Vietnamese football will continue to sustain and develop these achievements in the future.
As one of the two FIFA instructors at the workshop, Mr. Eric Abraham expressed his joy at returning to Vietnam and meeting familiar faces he had worked with before. Mr. Eric Abraham stated that participating in this workshop holds great significance for the cooperative development of youth football. Through the program, all parties hope to establish high-quality youth football training units that will serve as a foundation for sustainable development in the future.
On behalf of the 45 trainees, Coach Dinh The Nam affirmed that through the program, trainees have the opportunity to access many new and modern methods in selecting and developing young players. He expressed gratitude to the VFF leadership and FIFA instructors for organizing this meaningful workshop, which contributes to enhancing knowledge and direction in identifying and nurturing talents for Vietnamese football.
After the opening ceremony, the FIFA instructors continued working on the key content of effectively identifying talents, while also sharing methods to connect the selection process with the needs and standards of the national teams.
VFF expects that the workshop will strengthen connections among clubs, academies, and the youth training system, aiming to build a synchronized talent discovery and development network. Thereby, enhancing the capacity of coaches and scouts, and gradually perfecting the youth training system to create a source of quality players for the national teams in the future.
