U19 Vietnam off to a smooth start at the Southeast Asian Championship

The U19 Vietnam team had a favorable debut at the 2026 Southeast Asian U19 Championship, defeating U19 Timor Leste 3-0 in the first match of Group A.

Striker Hoang Cong Hau became the brightest star of the match with an impressive hat-trick, securing a full three points for coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's team. This victory gave U19 Vietnam a smooth start and boosted their confidence for the upcoming challenges in the tournament.

After the first round, U19 Vietnam and host U19 Indonesia both have 3 points and a goal difference of +3, temporarily sharing the top two positions in Group A.

In the match on the evening of June 1, U19 Indonesia also won 3-0 against U19 Myanmar. Arkhan Kaka and Prasetyo (scored two goals) were the scorers for the host team.

According to the schedule, U19 Vietnam will face U19 Myanmar in the second round at 16:00 on June 4. This is considered an important match in the race for a semi-final berth.

Shopee Cup 2026/27 draw on June 5

The Southeast Asian club championship Shopee Cup 2026/27 will officially return for its third season, bringing together the region's top football representatives.

The 2025/26 season has just concluded with the championship belonging to Buriram United, as the Thai club defeated Selangor FC with a 3-1 aggregate score over two finals to successfully defend their title.

According to an announcement from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the Shopee Cup 2026/27 will feature 14 clubs, including national champions, domestic cup winners, and in some cases, runners-up from top regional football nations.

The draw for the group stage of Shopee Cup 2026/27 will be held and broadcast live on June 5 on AFF's official media platforms.

FIFA and VFF organize a seminar on youth talent discovery

On the afternoon of June 1, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the opening ceremony of the seminar on "Talent Discovery and Selection Criteria" took place, co-organized by VFF and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Speaking at the event, VFF leaders highlighted the remarkable achievements of Vietnamese youth football in recent times. Notably, up to eight national youth teams have qualified for Asian finals. U23 Vietnam won the Southeast Asian U23 gold medal and the Asian U23 bronze medal, while U17 Vietnam secured a spot in the FIFA U17 World Cup for the first time.

On behalf of the 45 trainees attending the course, Coach Dinh The Nam said the program provides an opportunity to access modern methods in the selection, evaluation, and development of young players.

He also expressed gratitude to VFF and FIFA experts for organizing this meaningful seminar, which contributes to improving the quality of youth training and towards the sustainable development of Vietnamese football in the future.
