Spanish media: Man City plan to sign Spanish right-back Porro, with Spurs demanding over £50 million

A team needs players whose playing style matches its tactics. Tottenham's Spanish right-back excels more in offense than defense, yet this characteristic actually suits Manchester City's possession-oriented play better.

According to the latest news from Spanish media outlet *AS*, with the summer window about to open, all top clubs in the five major leagues are planning squad reinforcements. Tottenham, who have faced relegation battles for two consecutive seasons, may find it difficult to hold onto Porro. The Spanish right-back is one of Manchester City's targets for this summer's transfer window.

Now 26 years old, Porro's current contract with Tottenham runs until 2028. He joined Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023 for a €40 million transfer fee. In three seasons with Tottenham, he has made 152 appearances across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing 25 assists, and helped the club win the 2024-25 Europa League title. However, with Tottenham fighting for Premier League survival over the past two seasons, Porro has become eager to leave and pursue honors at a bigger and stronger club.

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid, the two Spanish giants, have had Porro on their radar. But now Manchester City have made their move. City have struggled to find a replacement for Walker at right-back, with Guardiola often having to use midfielder Nunes as a makeshift option. Porro's attacking attributes complement City's tactical approach perfectly. However, Tottenham will not let him go easily. They have set a starting price of £50 million for Porro, without which no transfer talks will begin. If City want to sign him, they will need to spend a significant fee, and also wait for new coach Maresca to take charge.
