Vietnamese football is on the verge of dominating the entire Southeast Asian region.

The U19 Vietnam side is heading into the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Cup aiming for the championship to finish off the collection of area-level trophies.

Vietnamese football now stands before a unique opportunity to round out its collection of Southeast Asian titles, as U19 Vietnam is about to take part in the 2026 U19 Southeast Asia Championship held in Indonesia. If they clinch the championship, it will be the final piece enabling Vietnamese men's football to almost "sweep up" all the major regional honors.

In recent years, Vietnam's national teams at various age levels have achieved success after success. The U17 Vietnam team just won the 2026 U17 Southeast Asia title; before that, U23 Vietnam claimed the 2025 U23 Southeast Asia crown, and the senior national team took home the 2024 AFF Cup. Adding the gold medal from the 33rd SEA Games for U23 Vietnam, the only major regional honor still missing from the collection is the U19 Southeast Asia championship.

According to specialized statistics, if U19 Vietnam wins the upcoming tournament (from June 1 to 13 in Indonesia), the men's national team title system in Vietnam will reach a state of "completeness" rarely seen in the region. This also further strengthens the assessment from international media about Vietnamese football's current standing.

Earlier, Indonesia's Bola Sport noted that Vietnamese football had overtaken Thailand to become the number one football nation in Southeast Asia from 2021 onward. If U19 Vietnam goes on to win, this dominant status will be even more clearly reinforced, lending additional credibility to those international evaluations.

In this year's tournament, U19 Vietnam is placed in Group A alongside host U19 Indonesia, Myanmar, and Timor Leste. The most notable opponents for coach Yutaka Ikeuchi's squad will be U19 Indonesia, U19 Thailand, and U19 Australia – teams regarded as direct contenders for the title.

From a technical perspective, U19 Australia is considered the toughest challenge due to their physical and strength advantages, while U19 Indonesia and U19 Thailand consistently maintain high competitiveness at the youth level. Nevertheless, U19 Vietnam is expected to make a difference if they stay cohesive and capitalize on their technical style of play, thereby pursuing the historic milestone that Vietnamese football still lacks in the U19 Southeast Asian arena.
