Xuân Son reacts humorously after becoming the joint top scorer in Southeast Asia

Nguyễn Xuân Son keeps making headlines by claiming the co-top scorer title for the Shopee Cup 2025/26. Interestingly, the Thép Xanh Nam Định forward posted a humorous response on social media following his second time topping the scoring charts in a Southeast Asian competition.

The Shopee Cup 2025/26 officially concluded with Buriram United crowned champions after a 2-1 victory over Selangor in the second leg of the final. The Thai side won 3-1 on aggregate to reaffirm their leading status in Southeast Asia.

Although Thép Xanh Nam Định were eliminated in the semifinals by Selangor, Nguyễn Xuân Son still became the center of attention with 7 goals, earning him the co-Golden Boot award for the Shopee Cup 2025/26 alongside Bergson da Silva of Johor Darul Ta’zim, thereby affirming his impressive scoring prowess in the Southeast Asian arena.

After Thép Xanh Nam Định Club posted a congratulatory message for Xuân Son reading: "Congratulations to Xuân Son for winning the ACC Shopee Cup 2025/26 Golden Boot", the 1997-born striker immediately left a notable comment. Xuân Son wrote: "Has anyone done this before? I can't remember. Oh, and it's after breaking my leg, by the way. I love everyone."

The playful remark also reflected his pride after a tough journey back to the pitch. Not long ago, Xuân Son suffered a serious injury and went through a difficult recovery process.

In the Shopee Cup 2025/26, the Nam Định striker quickly regained his formidable form. He scored 7 goals already in the group stage, notably a hat-trick against Shan United. According to statistics, Xuân Son took 23 shots, hit the target 13 times, and averaged a goal every 64 minutes.

This latest title also extends Xuân Son's impressive personal collection at the Southeast Asian level. Earlier, the naturalized striker had won the ASEAN Cup 2024 Golden Boot while playing for the Vietnam national team, with 7 goals and 2 assists in just 5 matches.
