Despite claiming he wishes to commit his entire career to Real Madrid, the recent comments from Vinicius Jr have cast doubt on his future as the Bernabeu faces intense upheaval.
The future of Vinicius Junior at Real Madrid has become a hot topic in Spain after the Brazilian star admitted he is "in no hurry" to extend his contract with the Royal club, even though his current deal only runs until 2027.
In an interview with journalist Casimiro Miguel, Vinicius affirmed that Real Madrid is still his "dream club" and he never imagined himself wearing another team's jersey. However, the 25-year-old forward also left the door open for a possible change in the future, as neither side has pushed forward negotiations for a new contract.
"I have never thought about leaving Real Madrid. I want to enjoy every moment here because it's my dream club," Vinicius shared. "I want to play for Real Madrid my whole life, but I'm also in no hurry to extend my contract."
What makes Vinicius's statement even more noteworthy is his enormous value in the transfer market. At 25, the Brazilian star is still considered one of the most expensive players in the world, with a valuation ranging around 170-200 million euros according to various international transfer websites.
As Real Madrid enters a turbulent transitional period, Vinicius's lack of a clear long-term commitment is a signal that the Bernabeu leadership cannot take lightly. At the first sign of any rift, numerous European giants and Saudi Arabian clubs are ready to create a "blockbuster of the century" to lure him away from Madrid.
The Brazilian star stated that the relationship between him and the club's management remains completely normal. President Florentino Perez still has great faith in him, while Vinicius himself remains calm amid the growing speculation.
"I have a contract until 2027. We have plenty of time to talk. The club is calm, and I am calm," he added.
This statement immediately sparked controversy because according to many previous reports, Vinicius was reportedly unhappy with his time working under former coach Xabi Alonso. In fact, there were rumors that he told Perez he would not renew if Alonso remained in charge of the team.
Nevertheless, the coaching situation at Real Madrid is also in chaos. After a second consecutive trophyless season, the Bernabeu side is set to appoint a new coach in the summer. The name most frequently mentioned at the moment is José Mourinho, who is said to have met with Pérez to discuss a possible return to Madrid.
Last season, Vinicius was one of the few bright spots for Real Madrid with 22 goals and 10 assists across all competitions. However, the Royal club finished second in La Liga, eight points behind arch-rivals Barcelona, and again failed to win any major titles.
Besides the future in Europe, Vinicius also excited Brazilian fans by hinting at a return to his childhood club Flamengo one day.
"I will return to Flamengo. Not right now, but I don't want to be too old when I go back," the 2000-born forward affirmed.
For now, Vinicius will be the biggest hope for the Brazilian national team at the 2026 World Cup under the guidance of former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. But at the Bernabeu right now, his future is clearly no longer as peaceful as the Madridistas once thought.
