Vietnamese football updates today 28/5: Xuan Son wins ASEAN Club Championship Golden Boot; Dong Nai to lack head coach Viet Thang in pivotal match.
The 2025/26 ASEAN Club Championship Shopee Cup concluded with Buriram United successfully defending their title.

Nam Dinh forward Nguyen Xuan Son shared the top scorer award for the tournament.
Xuan Son netted 7 goals, placing him level with Johor Darul Ta'zim's Bergson da Silva at the top of the scoring charts. Champion Buriram United’s Guilherme Bissoli finished third with 6 strikes.
Xuan Son enjoyed a prolific scoring streak, finding the net 7 times in the Shopee Cup group stage, including a hat-trick against Shan United.
However, he failed to add to his tally in the knockout rounds, as Nam Dinh were eliminated by Selangor in the semi-finals.
Currently, Xuan Son and Nam Dinh cannot retain the V-League title, but they still have a chance to compete in the National Cup for a spot in next season's ASEAN Club Championship.
Xuan Son and his teammates will face Cong An TP.HCM in the National Cup semi-finals.

In the first half, TP.HCM made their mark with a free kick from Thu Xuan that hit the crossbar; she recently won a SEA Games 33 gold medal in futsal. Ha Noi I also had reasons to rue missed chances created by Bui Thi Thuong and her teammates.
In the second half, Ha Noi I continued to exert considerable pressure on TP.HCM's half. Foreign player Gabriel could not help TP.HCM improve their situation.
After 90 minutes of regular time ended in a draw, the two teams entered a penalty shootout. The experience of World Cup‑seasoned players gave TP.HCM the edge.
TP.HCM won 3‑0 on penalties to claim the championship.
Dong Nai to be without head coach Viet Thang in decisive match.
Coach Nguyen Viet Thang cannot directly lead Truong Tuoi Dong Nai in the match that will decide the 2025/26 First Division championship due to accumulating three yellow cards.
On May 30, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai will host Long An at Binh Phuoc Stadium in the penultimate round (round 21) of the 2025/26 First Division.
Coach Nguyen Viet Thang's team only need to defeat Long An to secure the title and promotion with one round to spare.
This season, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai have won 14 matches, drawn 5, and lost only 1 under the guidance of coach Nguyen Viet Thang.
Besides head coach Viet Thang, Truong Tuoi Dong Nai will also be without central defender Nguyen Huu Tuan due to suspension. The former Vietnam national team center‑back was banned for two matches and fined 10 million VND by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) disciplinary committee for a serious foul in the round‑20 victory over TP.HCM (1‑0).
