Crystal Palace beat Vallecano to win the UEFA Conference League

By edging past Rayo Vallecano with a narrow 1-0 win in the 2025/26 Conference League final, Crystal Palace reached a historic milestone, lifting their maiden European title.

Jean-Philippe Mateta's sole goal not only brought a valuable cup to the English side but also earned them a place in next season's European competition.

Heading into the final with fierce determination, both Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano knew this was the best possible chance to finish the season with silverware and secure a spot in continental football next year.

The Premier League representative took the initiative from the start and quickly created several threatening chances toward the opponent's goal. However, a lack of accuracy in the final shots meant Palace could not turn their superiority into a goal.

On the other flank, Rayo Vallecano showed they were not inferior, employing intense pressing from the opposition's half. The La Liga side maintained high-pressure play, making it tough for Crystal Palace to build attacks.

Vallecano also had a noteworthy opportunity, but Alemao's shot was off target from a fairly favorable position. Late in the first half, Palace almost opened the scoring as Tyrick Mitchell rose for a close-range header, only to see the ball narrowly miss the far post.

After the break, the London club significantly stepped up the pressure. Their efforts paid off in the 51st minute. Adam Wharton's long-range strike was parried by the Vallecano goalkeeper, and Mateta was quick to slot home the rebound, giving Crystal Palace the lead.

The goal lifted the English side's spirits. Just a few minutes later, Mateta was again through on goal but could not double the advantage. For the rest of the match, Vallecano had to push forward in search of an equalizer, yet Palace's well‑organized defense stood firm against all pressure.

As the final whistle sounded, Crystal Palace officially became the 2025/26 Conference League champions. A gritty and fully deserved victory, writing a proud new chapter in the history of the London club.
