At age 41, Cristiano Ronaldo still amazes the football community, with expectations that he could keep playing until 45 and feature in the 2030 World Cup held in his native Portugal.
Former midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba recently praised Ronaldo highly, believing that the Portuguese superstar is fully capable of extending his career for several more years. Currently, the Al Nassr striker is preparing for his sixth World Cup after being called up to the Portuguese national team last week.
While many think the upcoming World Cup will be Ronaldo’s last appearance on the biggest stage, Djemba-Djemba holds a completely different view. Sharing with WebVictor, the ex-Manchester United player stated: “I truly believe Cristiano Ronaldo can play football until he is 44 or 45 years old.”
He also emphasized that this would not surprise him, as he has witnessed Ronaldo’s incredible training mentality since they were both at Manchester United: “We trained together every day, and even after practice, he always wanted to do more. Ronaldo is obsessed with improving himself and competing. I have never seen such a mindset.”
Djemba-Djemba further stated that if Ronaldo maintains his current physical condition and form, he fully deserves a place in Portugal’s squad for the 2030 World Cup —a tournament that will be co-hosted by Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.
In particular, the former Cameroon international even dreams of seeing Ronaldo play alongside his eldest son, Cristiano Ronaldo Jr., at the biggest football festival: “That would be the perfect ending to Ronaldo’s career and a wonderful moment for Portuguese football. If Cristiano Jr. is also there, it would be unbelievable.”
This season, Ronaldo continues to showcase his impressive goalscoring prowess, netting 30 goals in 37 appearances for Al-Nassr. He also played a key role in helping the Saudi club win the Saudi Pro League title earlier this month.
