Thailand fields its strongest squad for the Southeast Asian tournament, no longer holding back.

Thailand's U19s are generating a distinctly different atmosphere on the eve of the 2026 Southeast Asian championship, after the FA decided to deploy the strongest lineup to restore confidence among supporters.

In the training camp in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok, the Thailand U19 team is entering the final preparation phase for the 2026 U19 Southeast Asian championship with a completely different atmosphere compared to previous years. Over 30 of the best players in this age group have been called up, all competing fiercely for a spot in the official squad for the tournament in Indonesia from June 1 to 13.

According to Siam Sports, the Thailand U19 coaching staff is pushing training intensity very high to perfect both attacking and defensive tactics. Set pieces, dead-ball situations, and transition play are all being refined in each session. More importantly, Thai football has publicly affirmed for the first time that there will be no more "holding back" or using a reserve team in the Southeast Asian arena.

Coach Jakraphan Panpee also showed great determination when speaking to Thai media. He emphasized: "Of course, for the U19 Southeast Asian Championship, all of us, from the Football Association leaders to the coaching staff and players, want to win the title." The coach also called on fans to accompany the team on their journey in Indonesia.

Not stopping there, Coach Panpee further declared: "I call on all Thai football fans to watch and cheer for us with all your hearts. We will soon select the best 23 players for the tournament." This statement is seen by Thai media as confirmation that the FAT will field the strongest squad for this year's tournament, instead of continuing to experiment or split the squad as before.

In recent years, Thai youth football has been under immense pressure after failures at both regional and continental levels. After each unsuccessful tournament, the FAT often explained that the team did not use its optimal force. This has occurred from the 2025 SEA Games, the 2026 U23 Asian Championship, to the recent 2026 U17 Southeast Asian Championship, causing fans to become increasingly impatient.

Notably, at the U17 Southeast Asian championship, Thailand only sent its U16 team and suffered a disappointing outcome, losing to Laos and being eliminated in the group stage. However, right after that, when they brought the strongest squad to the U17 Asian finals, they still stopped early with a weak performance. Therefore, the decision to bring the strongest squad to this U19 Southeast Asian championship is seen as a move showing that Thai football no longer wants to be associated with the controversial image of "holding back."
