How tough is Thai League 2 for coach Park Hang-seo?

Coach Park Hang-seo and Kanchanaburi Power will have to get past many formidable rivals to earn a spot in the top flight next year.

The 2026/27 Thai League 2 season is predicted to be one of the most fiercely contested races in Southeast Asian football. Therefore, coach Park Hang-seo will certainly not have an easy journey with Kanchanaburi Power.

Ranked second in the system of Thai football, Thai League 2 features 18 clubs. They will play a double round-robin format with a total of 34 matchdays before the promotion spots are determined.

According to the format, the top two clubs on the standings will move up to the Thai League next season. Meanwhile, clubs placed from 3rd to 6th will enter a tense playoff to compete for the final promotion spot. Notably, the entire playoff consists of only single-leg matches. This means that even a small mistake could ruin the entire season.

Coach Park Hang-seo was surprisingly appointed as head coach of Kanchanaburi in Thai League 2

As a result, the pressure on coach Park Hang-seo and Kanchanaburi for the upcoming season is considered enormous.

After the 2025/26 season, three clubs earned promotion: Rasisalai United, Sisaket United, and Pattani. However, the league still features a host of formidable opponents. Teams like Nong Bua Pitchaya, Police Tero, and Chainat—who failed in the playoffs—are seen as strong candidates for the promotion race next season. These will be direct rivals that coach Park Hang-seo's team must contend with.

Additionally, the name that attracts the most attention from fans is certainly Muangthong United. The club, once considered a top powerhouse in Thai football, was surprisingly relegated after the 2025/26 season. This is a major shock, as "the Kirins" once enjoyed a golden period with four Thai League titles in 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2016. Moreover, this is the club where goalkeeper Dang Van Lam spent over two years playing before returning to Vietnam.

Although they no longer maintain their peak status, Muangthong United is clearly still a very tough opponent in Thai League 2 thanks to their experience, reputation, and ambition to return to Thailand's top division as soon as possible.

The journey of coach Park Hang-seo and Kanchanaburi will certainly receive special attention from regional fans

Besides "the Kirins," Nakhon Ratchasima is another club recently relegated from Thai League, promising to make the promotion race even more intense than ever.

With numerous ambitious clubs and a highly competitive format, next season's Thai League 2 is expected to be nothing short of a real "battlefield." In this context, coach Park Hang-seo will face a huge challenge in his goal of leading Kanchanaburi Power to promotion. Given the appeal of the strategist who once helped Vietnamese football dominate Southeast Asia, the journey of the "Iron Horse" will surely draw special attention from fans in the region.
