About Vietnam U19

Following an extended preparation period with numerous key professional activities, the Vietnam U19 team has completed its final steps before departing for Indonesia to compete in the 2026 ASEAN U19 Championship. Alongside squad and tactical preparations, the entire team has received great expectations from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) ahead of their departure.

During a meeting held on the morning of May 26, VFF General Secretary Nguyen Van Phu, on behalf of the Federation's leadership, encouraged the team and assigned tasks to head coach Yutaka Ikeuchi and his players. The goal is not only to perform well but also to continue the recent successes of Vietnamese youth football, thereby affirming their position in the regional arena.

Ahead of the tournament, the Vietnam U19 team underwent a 10-day training camp in Japan from May 14 to May 24. During this period, they played four friendly matches against opponents including the U20 and U22 teams of Shizuoka Sangyo University, Tokai Gakuen University, and the B team of Shimizu S-Pulse Club.

These matches were seen as crucial opportunities for the coaching staff to review personnel, test game strategies, and help players adapt to high-intensity competition. Facing teams with strong physical foundations and high organization also provided valuable experience for the young players.

Coach Yutaka Ikeuchi assessed that the team had thoroughly prepared both professionally and mentally. However, he also acknowledged significant difficulties as some quality players could not join due to commitments with their clubs or academic obligations.

Despite this, Vietnam U19 remains determined to make an impact in this tournament and aims to compete for the top position.
