
According to the list, as many as 39 teams have chosen to set up their base camps in the United States, while 7 teams will be based in Mexico and 2 teams in Canada. Defending champions Argentina and the England team have both selected Kansas City (USA) as their training location throughout the tournament.
FIFA's Managing Director for the 2026 World Cup, Mr. Heimo Schirgi, emphasized that training centers play a crucial role in the teams' journey in the tournament. According to him, these are not only places for training and recovery but also "where teams establish their daily routines throughout the World Cup."
One of the most notable pieces of information is that the Iran team will set up its base camp in the Mexican city of Tijuana instead of the United States. This decision comes amid Tehran's previous concerns about visa and safety issues for players due to lingering tensions between Iran and the US.
On May 25, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that Mexico has agreed to allow the Iran team to stay in the country to avoid barriers related to US entry visas. The Centro Xoloitzcuintle training center in Tijuana will be the training venue for this Asian team.
Earlier, the President of the Iran Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, stated that the team has not yet received visas to attend the World Cup in the United States, even though FIFA has confirmed Iran's eligibility to participate in the tournament.
Besides Iran, several other teams have also chosen Mexico as their base camp, including Colombia, South Korea, Mexico, South Africa, Tunisia, and Uruguay. Meanwhile, Canada and Panama will train in Canada.
The US team will set up its base camp in Irvine, California, while Brazil chooses the New York-New Jersey area. The French team will train in Boston, Germany will be based in North Carolina, and Japan has selected Nashville as its preparation site for the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking the first time the tournament features 48 teams.
