Malaysian media: 'Coach Park Hang Seo heats up Southeast Asia again'

The appointment of Coach Park Hang-seo to manage a Thai club has captured the notice of Malaysian outlets, largely because of the major achievements he established alongside Vietnamese football.

After a relatively quiet period following his departure from the Vietnam national team in 2023, Coach Park Hang-seo suddenly became a regional media focal point when he officially accepted the role of head coach for Thailand's Kanchanaburi Power FC. Under the headline: "Park Hang Seo heats up Southeast Asian football again," Malaysian newspaper Makanbola stated that the return of the South Korean strategist has "heated up" the atmosphere of Southeast Asian football after several years without directly managing a team.

According to Makanbola, the name Park Hang-seo has almost become a special symbol of Vietnamese football during the most successful period of the "Golden Star Warriors." The publication emphasized that during his five years leading Vietnam, Park not only turned the team into a formidable regional force but also created a series of historical milestones. And it is this unique past that makes his decision to move to Thailand attract enormous attention.

The Malaysian newspaper specifically recalled the 2018 AFF Cup championship and two SEA Games gold medals that Park won with Vietnamese football. Additionally, the feat of leading Vietnam to the 2019 Asian Cup quarterfinals is also considered one of the greatest successes of the 68-year-old coach on the continental stage.

Makanbola noted that Park's reputation is so immense that he was continuously linked with many hot seats across Asia. National teams such as South Korea, China, Thailand, India, and Cambodia have all appeared in rumors related to the South Korean strategist. He was even mentioned as a potential candidate for the Malaysia head coach position after Kim Pan-gon left the role in 2024.

After leaving the Vietnam national team, Park mainly served as an advisor for Bac Ninh FC and as Vice President of the Korea Football Association. However, according to Makanbola's assessment, his acceptance of the Kanchanaburi Power FC role shows that he is ready to return to the pressure of the pitch. The Thai club has not only tasked him with bringing the team back to Thai League 1 but also expects Park to help build a long-term youth development foundation for the local area.
