The whistling wind is for Mbappe

Despite President Florentino's efforts to publicly praise Kylian Mbappe as the best player in the Real Madrid squad, the majority of fans present at the final match of the season expressed their dissatisfaction by whistling at the French striker. It is true that Mbappe has scored many goals, but it is equally true that most of them have been insignificant and have not helped the team achieve collective objectives, which are the core values in football.

Moreover, towards the end of the season, Mbappe gave the impression of following his own path, lacking team spirit. Even the awkward hug with Alvaro Arbeloa after a goal could not make people forget the controversial statements that once put the coach in a difficult position ("he said I was the fourth striker"). Mbappe was booed because fans realized that since his arrival at Real Madrid, his contributions have not matched the enormous initial expectations, nor his salary and privileges.

With 25 goals, Mbappe won the Pichichi for the 2025-26 season. This is his second consecutive top scorer award since arriving in Madrid. But it means nothing. Real Madrid still "eat dust" behind Barcelona, and luckily did not have to line up to applaud their rivals in "El Clasico" – all thanks to Vinicius's efforts.

By now, many people seem to have accepted that Mbappe lacks the character to become a leader who can command the entire Bernabeu dressing room. But from now on, beyond continuing to score goals, he will have to demonstrate a greater spirit of dedication and a deeper understanding of what it means to defend the colors of the most demanding club in the world.

Playing well and scoring many goals is wonderful, but it is still not enough if the fans feel that you have not given the club everything your talent can offer. Two seasons without trophies is a disaster for Real Madrid, and also a stain on the record of a player who joined a team accustomed to winning, but since his arrival, the club has stopped lifting cups or celebrating titles.

Even more striking is that PSG won the Champions League in the very first season after Mbappe left, and the Parisian team reached the final for the second consecutive season.
