More than two years after leaving the Vietnam national team, Coach Park Hang Seo has officially returned to coaching by agreeing to take charge of Kanchanaburi FC in Thai League 2.
On the afternoon of May 25, Thai club Kanchanaburi officially announced the appointment of Coach Park Hang Seo as their new head coach on a two-year contract. This marks the first time the South Korean strategist has returned to coaching since parting ways with the Vietnam national team in early 2023.
In the official announcement, the Thai club emphasized: “They have not come just to manage the team for one season, but to build a sustainable foundation for local football development.”
Kanchanaburi has shown great ambition by not only inviting Mr. Park but also assembling a quality coaching team. The new coaching staff includes assistant coaches Lee Jung Soo and Phanupong Wongsa, fitness coach Roh Yeong Su, along with several analysts and goalkeeping coaches.
This club was just relegated from Thai League 1 and aims to return to Thailand's top division next season. According to many sources, strong financial backing was the key factor that led Mr. Park to accept the offer after nearly a year of considering a return to coaching.
However, the former Vietnam coach will not be able to start work immediately. Currently, Mr. Park retains the role of Vice President of the Korea Football Association and is in charge of the Korean national team for the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, he will only officially take over the club at the end of July, while assistant Lee Jung Soo will temporarily manage the club.
The arrival of Coach Park Hang Seo quickly sparked excitement in Thailand. On many football forums, fans believe his presence will make Thai League 2 much more attractive.
A Thai fan commented: “With Mr. Park leading Kanchanaburi, the players will definitely play with high discipline and fighting spirit.”
Meanwhile, another opinion noted: “Wherever Mr. Park goes, that team becomes stronger. Next season's Thai League 2 will definitely be extremely worth watching.”
Coach Park Hang Seo previously created a brilliant successful period with Vietnamese football, winning the 2018 AFF Cup, two consecutive SEA Games gold medals, reaching the quarter-finals of the 2019 Asian Cup, and notably leading Vietnam to the final round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Asia.
The sudden appearance of the South Korean strategist in Thai football is therefore drawing significant attention from Southeast Asian fans.
