Vietnam U17 Highlights 3-0 Malaysia U17: Absolute Dominance, Achieving a Historic Milestone

By defeating Malaysia, Vietnam U17 reached a historic milestone and demonstrated absolute dominance in the 2026 Southeast Asia U17 Championship.

Achieving a Historic Milestone

Before this final match, Vietnam U17 had crushed Malaysia 4-0 in the group stage of this year's tournament. However, in the knockout rounds of the Southeast Asia U17 Championship, Malaysia held a perfect record against Vietnam, having defeated us 1-0 (2013) and 3-1 (2019).

But that is history, and history is only for reference. In the third encounter with Malaysia U17 in a knockout round, our players proved that point. Vietnam U17 dominated the opponent throughout the match, created numerous dangerous situations, and scored three goals to claim the championship.

Making it to the finals for the sixth time in 17 editions and winning the championship for the fourth time after triumphs in 2006, 2010, and 2017, Vietnam U17 officially surpassed Thailand and Australia to become the most successful team in Southeast Asia U16/U17 history with four titles.

Absolute Dominance

Before this final, Vietnam U17 was the team that scored the most goals in the tournament (16), tied with Australia, and conceded the least (1). We further increased our goal tally to 19 after defeating Malaysia U17 3-0 in the final.

But the strength of Vietnam U17 is not only reflected in dry statistics. It is also demonstrated in how we "put away" Malaysia U17.

Even though the opponent was aware of Vietnam U17's strength and proactively defended in numbers, it was ineffective. The players in red still continuously shook Malaysia's goal with their attacking play and diverse approaches.

Van Duong, Sy Bach, Nguyen Luc, Dai Nhan… frequently troubled Malaysia's defenders with their technique, speed, and cleverness.

A Perfect Run-up for the Asian Championship and the World Cup Dream

The 2026 Southeast Asia U17 Championship title is a great run-up and stepping stone for Vietnam U17 to gain more confidence aiming for bigger stages like the U17 Asian Championship and beyond, the World Cup.

Coach Cristiano Roland mentioned the aspiration to participate in the World Cup, and this is a stage where Vietnam U17 can definitely appear if they achieve good results at the 2026 AFC U17 Championship Finals taking place in May 2026.

It must be emphasized that Vietnam U17 has set the goal of doing everything at this year's AFC U17 Championship Finals to secure the historic ticket to the 2026 U17 World Cup Finals.

The World Cup dream of Vietnam U17 is becoming grounded. If players like Van Duong, Sy Bach, Nguyen Luc… continue to play confidently, harmoniously, and cohesively like this, our boys can definitely achieve much greater things in the near future.
