Yamal criticized for being 'unprofessional' after controversy over a... fast food meal

Young Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has become the center of controversy in Spain after sustaining an injury less than 48 hours since posting controversial images on social media.

Specifically, the 18-year-old forward suffered a hamstring issue during Barcelona's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on April 23. Yamal scored the only goal from a penalty but had to leave the field limping, causing concern for the coaching staff and fans.

On April 24, Barcelona confirmed Yamal will miss the remainder of the domestic season. However, the player is expected to recover in time to join the Spanish national team for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which begins in mid-June.

Two days earlier, Yamal was honored at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid with the title "Breakthrough of the Year." After the ceremony, he posted images of eating fast food on a private jet during the journey back to Barcelona. This detail sparked public outcry.

Commenting on DSports, journalist Juan Furlanich criticized: "It's unbelievable that Yamal got injured just after a penalty kick. Eating fast food and traveling late at night before a match 48 hours later is not coincidental. It could be a consequence of insufficient rest and improper self-care."

Nevertheless, Yamal has reassured fans. On Instagram, the young talent admitted disappointment about missing play during a crucial phase and affirmed he will return stronger next season.

His teammates at Barcelona sent many encouraging messages, including Marcus Rashford with a brief message: "Get well soon, brother."
