The historic Southeast Asian championship beckons Vietnam's U17 team.

Vietnam's U17 team is facing the chance to become the most crowned team in the competition's history.

Vietnam's U17 team is advancing very close to a historic milestone at the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship after securing a thrilling 2-1 victory over reigning champion Australia U17 in the semifinal on April 22. The emotionally charged comeback not only earned Coach Cristiano Roland and his squad a ticket to the final but also affirmed their position as the top contender for this year's title.

In the decisive match, Vietnam U17's opponent will be Malaysia U17, who overcame Laos U17 with a 3-0 score in the other semifinal. This is a familiar opponent, as the two teams previously met in the group stage, where Vietnam U17 convincingly won 4-0. That result provides significant confidence for the Vietnamese representatives ahead of the tournament's most crucial rematch.

The historic Southeast Asian championship is calling out to Vietnam's U17 team.

If they defeat Malaysia in the final, Vietnam U17 will officially become the most accomplished team in the tournament's history. Currently, the team has three championship titles from 2006, 2010, and 2017, tying with Australia U17 and Thailand U17. However, both Australia and Thailand have been eliminated, opening a golden opportunity for the red-shirted squad to exclusively occupy the top position in Southeast Asia.

Under the guidance of Coach Cristiano Roland, Vietnam U17 is demonstrating extremely impressive form. Following the victory over Australia, the team extended their unbeaten streak to 15 matches, including 11 wins and 4 draws. During this streak, the young players scored up to 56 goals and conceded only 4 times, a statistic showcasing a perfect balance between attack and defense.

Moving into the 2026 Asian U17 qualifiers, Vietnam U17 continued maintaining stable performance with a record of winning all 5 matches, scoring 30 goals and not conceding any. Their organized playstyle, quick transition ability, and solid defense have become distinct characteristics of the team. Overcoming Malaysia in the final would be a deserved reward for the impressive development journey of Vietnam's young generation.

Malaysia possesses staggering statistics that make Vietnam's U17 team extremely anxious.
