OFFICIAL: English Club Confirms 15-Point Deduction

The prospective investors set to take over Sheffield Wednesday have received notification from the English First Division organizers that the club will begin the next season with a 15-point deduction.

Arise Capital Partners, a consortium led by David Storch, has emerged as the leading candidate to take over Sheffield Wednesday, a club competing in the English First Division (EFL).

Previously, there was information suggesting Sheffield Wednesday would start the next season in the Second Division with a -15 point penalty, following confirmation of relegation from the EFL in February.

The reason is reportedly that Arise does not wish to pay £15 million to departing owner Dejphon Chansiri. According to EFL regulations, the club must pay at least 25% of its debts to current creditors. However, Storch's consortium's offer is significantly lower than this amount.

Specifically, the £20 million offer from the American investment firm translates to approximately 6 pence per pound for unsecured creditors, while the minimum required to avoid a points deduction is 25 pence.

Currently, Storch has confirmed that the EFL has notified the club of a 15-point deduction at the start of the new season due to failing to meet this requirement.

In a statement on X, Storch wrote: "We have been notified that the 15-point penalty will be applied from the very start of the next season. We completely disagree with this decision..."

Storch also stated that the facilities at Hillsborough stadium are “below standard” and require “urgent and significant” improvement.

Despite numerous challenges, he reassured fans that his group plans to complete the takeover before May 1st.

This season, Sheffield Wednesday has been deducted a total of 18 points during a campaign fraught with difficulties both on and off the field.

Of these, 12 points were deducted due to the club entering special administration, and another 6 points for breaching the league's financial regulations.

This led them to suffer the earliest relegation in Championship history in February, and with the penalties, the club currently sits at -4 points with only 4 rounds remaining in the season.

Next season, Sheffield Wednesday will face the risk of further relegation to the English Third Division, an unprecedented event in the club's 149-year history.
