OFFICIAL: Vietnamese football undergoes unprecedented historical change

Vietnam Women's National Championship football league adopts home-away format starting from 2026.

As previously reported, the 10th meeting of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Executive Committee for the IX term (2022-2026) took place in Hanoi. The conference approved many important matters. The meeting heard reports, discussed, and unanimously passed several key items, including: Agreeing to organize the Vietnam Women's National Championship football league in a home-away format starting from 2026.

Previously, the Women's National Championship was always held in a centralized format, even though it was divided into two rounds of home and away matches. However, due to the small number of teams and the significant travel costs, the home-away league format was not truly suitable.

The 2026 Women's National Championship will switch to a home-away league format

However, by 2026, the Women's National Championship will be organized in a home-away league format, marking an unprecedented change in history. Nevertheless, the number of participating teams is likely to remain unchanged, including six teams: Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen T&T, Hanoi I, Hanoi II, Phong Phu Ha Nam, and Than Khoang San Vietnam.

Among these, only Ho Chi Minh City is a team from the southern region, while the remaining five teams are from the northern area, so travel for these five teams will not face too many difficulties. For Ho Chi Minh City alone, continuous travel between South and North could also be a disadvantage, raising the requirement for scheduling matches reasonably.
