Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc officially signed a contract to lead the Vietnam Women's National Team, replacing Coach Mai Đức Chung, marking a crucial transition phase for the squad.
On April 17th morning, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) officially signed a contract with Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc, assigning him the position of head coach for the Vietnam Women's National Team. The contract lasts until the end of the 34th SEA Games, signifying a pivotal shift in the leadership of the national women's team.
The appointment decision was made in the context of Coach Mai Đức Chung voluntarily stepping down after a long period of dedication and achieving numerous historic accomplishments. Under his tenure, Vietnamese women's football reached its peak with a ticket to the 2023 World Cup and multiple regional titles, thereby establishing a solid foundation for the succeeding phase.
The chosen successor is Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc – a familiar name in Vietnamese football, having previously coached the National Team, U23 Vietnam, and helped Quảng Nam Club win the V.League 2017. His extensive experience is expected to enable him to quickly adapt to the women's football environment, although this is a rare occasion for him to take on the "captain" role at this level.
Regarding his new assignment, Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc stated: "I have 40 years of experience in football, so I possess the expertise to handle the job. I also recognize the eagerness and willingness to learn within the women's team. I will analyze matches and manage the psychological aspects of competition. Female players' psychology is slightly weaker than males. Additionally, in women's football, quick transitions and attacks are very important. I will focus on maintaining the team's professional strengths. The players always work very hard, which is an advantage."
He also emphasized the pressure of succeeding a legend of Vietnamese women's football: "Coach Mai Đức Chung is a women's football legend, having a long history with the women's team by leading them to the 2023 World Cup and winning four SEA Games gold medals. I feel pressure, but that is normal in the coaching profession. I spent two years as an assistant for the women's team, allowing me to learn from experience and observe how Mr. Chung worked. I also have many years of coaching experience myself."
During the transition phase, Coach Hoàng Văn Phúc's tasks include not only maintaining performance but also rebuilding the squad, rejuvenating the lineup, and adapting to increasingly fierce regional competition. VFF expects his deep understanding of Vietnamese football and practical experience to help him shape a new playing style, steering the women's team toward long-term objectives.
