OFFICIAL: Manchester United receives severe penalty from FA

Manchester United's key defender receives an additional suspension from the FA, causing the team to lose a player in the match against Chelsea amid an already severely depleted squad.

Defender Harry Maguire continues to be the focal point at Manchester United as he receives an additional suspension from the FA. The English defender was previously sent off in the clash with Bournemouth and now faces further serious consequences.

Specifically, Maguire is suspended for one additional match and fined £30,000 due to improper conduct towards the fourth official. This means he will be absent from the weekend's clash with Chelsea. This decision not only affects the individual player but also puts Manchester United in a difficult position regarding squad depth – a problem that is becoming increasingly concerning.

Previously, in the match against Bournemouth, Maguire received a red card after pushing striker Evanilson down in the penalty area. Referee Stuart Attwell immediately awarded a penalty to the home team, despite earlier ignoring a similar incident involving Amad Diallo, sparking controversy.

Reacting to this decision, Maguire argued with Attwell before continuing to exchange words with the fourth official upon leaving the pitch. The FA subsequently confirmed: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being dismissed from the pitch in the 78th minute of the match between Manchester United and Bournemouth on March 20. The player is alleged to have engaged in improper conduct and/or used abusive, insulting, and/or offensive language and/or behavior towards the fourth official after being sent off.”

After review, the governing body further announced: “The Independent Regulatory Commission has imposed a one-match suspension and a £30,000 fine on Manchester United's Harry Maguire. The player subsequently admitted the charge. The Regulatory Commission issued the penalty following a hearing.” This is a heavy blow to manager Michael Carrick's personnel plans.

Furthermore, Manchester United also risks losing Lisandro Martínez following the red card in the match against Leeds United. Carrick even called it one of the “worst decisions” he has ever seen, and the club is considering an appeal as they believe the incident was neither violent nor intentional.

Nevertheless, precedent in the Premier League does not favor the “Red Devils.” The case of Michael Keane from Everton saw an appeal rejected despite considerable controversy. Manager David Moyes was frustrated at the time, but the panel concluded the behavior exceeded acceptable standards, signaling a bleak outlook for Manchester United.
