Brazil Coach: 'Vietnam's 4-0 victory over Malaysia was inevitable'

Vietnam U17 coach Cristiano Roland stated he was not surprised at all when his players secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Malaysia U17 in the opening match of the 2026 Southeast Asia U17 Championship.

Vietnam U17 team made an impressive debut in Group A of the 2026 Southeast Asia U17 Championship by achieving a convincing 4-0 victory over Malaysia U17.

Speaking after the match, Coach Cristiano Roland asserted this was a deserved reward for the team's efforts. He emphasized that Vietnam U17 had thorough preparation, built a suitable game plan, and conducted detailed analysis of the opponent's strengths before the match began.

The Brazilian strategist said: "We studied what the opponent could do and their tactical system. When the players performed to their ability, this result was inevitable."

Besides tactical factors, Coach Roland also highlighted the playing identity of Vietnam U17, combining flexible attacks and surprising moves in the opponent's defensive line, which caused Malaysia many difficulties.

Not only outstanding in technique, the Vietnamese players were also praised for their positive competitive spirit and good adaptability despite playing away.

He shared: "We know the players have the qualities to play better, but they need to adapt quickly to the atmosphere, pitch, and ball."

Despite the convincing victory, the coach born in 1976 still praised Malaysia, considering them a strong opponent. He also expressed hope that his players would maintain stable performance in the upcoming matches.

He added: "Of course, Malaysia also played very well. They are a strong team. Therefore, I hope my players can continue to perform like this in the coming matches."

The impressive victory of Vietnam U17 was further highlighted by the excellent performance of Le Sy Bach, who scored two goals against Malaysia U17.

The rising star born in 2009 said: "I am very happy and delighted to score two goals and contribute to the team's victory."

This victory helped Vietnam U17 share the top position with Indonesia U17, who also crushed Timor-Leste 4-0. In the second match, Coach Cristiano Roland's team will face Timor-Leste, and this match will take place at 15:30 on April 16.
