OFFICIAL: Quang Hai's son joins Vietnam national team for AFF tournament

Nguyen Le Quang Khoi is listed in the official squad of the Vietnam U17 team participating in the Southeast Asian U17 Championship.

Recently, the Vietnam Football Federation officially announced the 26-player official roster of the Vietnam U17 team for the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship. The name attracting significant attention is Nguyen Le Quang Khoi, the son of former striker Quang Hai, who won the 2008 AFF Cup with the Vietnam national team.

Regarding notable individuals like Quang Khoi, coach Cristiano Roland stated that the young players all possess considerable potential; however, to secure a position at the national team level, technical skills must be paired with tactical understanding and physical foundation. "Quang Khoi needs to continue striving and focus even more to develop comprehensively in the future," he said.

Notably, Quang Khoi previously underwent training in Brazil and has been called up to Vietnam U17 levels since two years ago. This has helped the young forward accumulate additional international match experience and adapt early to the professional football environment at the national team level.

However, in previous training camps with the Vietnam U16 to U19 teams, Quang Khoi often did not leave a strong impression and once missed the 2026 Asian U17 qualifiers due to injury. This can be considered the first official international tournament in the career of Quang Hai's son.

According to the plan, the Vietnam U17 team will depart for Indonesia on the morning of April 10 to participate in the 2026 Southeast Asian U17 Championship finals. There, the team is placed in Group A alongside U17 Malaysia, host Indonesia, and Timor Leste. This is seen as a crucial preparatory step before aiming for the larger goal of the 2026 Asian U17 Championship finals, where the opportunity to participate in the U17 World Cup will be determined.

With thorough preparation and promising talents like Quang Khoi, the Vietnam U17 team is expected to perform well and simultaneously establish a foundation for the next generation of young Vietnamese football players in the future.
