Cristiano Ronaldo continues to spark controversy in the Saudi Pro League as the title race heats up, leading to a series of opposing views on his role and influence.
Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo remains the center of debate in the Saudi Pro League, as conflicting statements from experts and players add tension to the championship race.
On the Kora program, expert Al-Ajma drew attention by bluntly stating “no one truly wants to see Ronaldo win the championship.” This statement immediately sparked a major wave of controversy, highlighting the pressure the Portuguese superstar faces despite maintaining impressive form.
Al-Ajma also dismissed rumors that the league is “favoring” Ronaldo. According to him, all teams must compete fairly, and the championship comes only from performance and collective effort: “If Al-Nassr wins the title, it is the achievement of the whole team, not just Ronaldo,” he emphasized.
In reality, Al-Nassr holds a significant advantage by leading the standings, being 2 points ahead of Al-Hilal and having played one fewer match. If they defeat Al-Akhdoud in round 29, the gap could widen to 5 points with only 5 rounds remaining in the season.
At 41 years old, Ronaldo still demonstrates astonishing class with 23 goals in 23 matches. However, the Saudi Pro League title remains the missing piece in his vast collection. This season therefore holds special significance, possibly being CR7's final chance to complete his club-level conquest before aiming for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Nevertheless, the controversy surrounding Ronaldo has not subsided. Previously, Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney publicly criticized VAR and referees after the controversial 1-1 draw against Al-Fayha. He claimed that many unfavorable decisions caused his team to lose crucial points.
Notably, Toney hinted at a lack of transparency by revealing that a referee advised players to focus on another competition because “the championship is already destined for Al-Nassr.” His teammate, Galeno, also angrily suggested that certain forces want to hand the trophy to Ronaldo.
These statements further intensify the atmosphere in the Saudi Pro League making it even more heated. Whether right or wrong, one undeniable fact remains: Ronaldo is still the name that stirs up the entire league and public opinion, even in the final stages of his career.
