On the afternoon of April 9th, the quarter-finals of the National U15 football tournament unfolded with unexpected and dramatic developments. U15 SLNA demonstrated their strength against Becamex TP.HCM, while U15 Tay Ninh created a seismic upset by overcoming the championship contender U15 PVF.
As predicted, the clash between U15 SLNA and U15 Becamex TP.HCM provided a feast of goals for the fans. In just the 10th minute, Becamex TP.HCM poured a "cold bucket of water" on their opponent's ambitions when Hoang Huy capitalized on a long pass from his teammate to finish accurately, opening the score at 1-0.
However, the early conceded goal touched the pride of the young players from Nghe. On a dazzling performance day, striker Van Tai became the nightmare for the southern team's defensive line. Within just over 30 minutes of play in the first half, this striker scored three consecutive goals at minutes 11, 25, and 43 to complete a hat-trick, putting SLNA ahead 3-1.
In the second half, Becamex TP.HCM pushed their formation higher and managed to narrow the gap to 2-3 thanks to Chi Dung's effort. Nevertheless, SLNA with the composure of a top youth academy quickly restored order. After an opponent's own goal and Duc Anh's decisive goal in the 80th minute, the Nghe team concluded the match with a final 5-3 victory, officially securing their place in the semifinals.
In the quarter-final match between U15 PVF and U15 Tay Ninh held at the same time today, the biggest surprise since the tournament's start emerged. Rated as the top contender for the championship, U15 PVF proactively imposed their game plan right after the opening whistle. At minute 51, PVF's efforts materialized with Nguyen Xuan Vinh (10) scoring the opening goal.
However, the joy for the Public Security sector team did not last long. At minute 55, exploiting a lapse in the opponent's defense, Vo Anh Hao (10) from U15 Tay Ninh scored the precious equalizer, making it 1-1.
The tied score was maintained until the end of regular time, forcing both teams into a high-stakes penalty shootout. On the 11-meter spot, the young Tay Ninh players displayed steely nerves, successfully converting all 5 attempts, while U15 PVF only managed 4. With a breath-taking 5-4 victory after the shootout, U15 Tay Ninh officially turned U15 PVF into a "former king" and advanced straight into the top four strongest teams.
