CNN Indonesia confidently states that their home team will beat the Vietnamese futsal team to extend their winning streak and secure a spot in the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship finals.
On April 10th morning, CNN Indonesia published an article titled: "Indonesia vs Vietnam: An opportunity for Garuda to build a winning streak."
Below the article, the newspaper describes the two teams' journey to the semifinals: "Indonesia secured a spot in the 2026 AFF Futsal Cup semifinals as the top team in Group B after defeating Australia 3-2 in the final group match. The national futsal team earned their semifinal ticket by beating Malaysia 1-0 in their second match.
Meanwhile, Vietnam advanced to the semifinals as the runner-up of Group A. In the decisive match for the group leader, Vietnam lost to host Thailand 4-2 on Wednesday (April 9th)."
According to CNN Indonesia, victory in this match is very significant for the archipelago's team because in the two previous encounters between the two teams within the tournament framework, Indonesia had lost to Vietnam:
"This match marks the third encounter between Indonesia and Vietnam in the AFF Futsal Cup semifinals. In the two previous instances, Indonesia lost to Vietnam. The Garuda team's first meeting with Vietnam in the AFF Futsal Cup semifinals occurred in 2009, when Vietnam hosted the tournament. Indonesia lost 7-8 in a penalty shootout.
Indonesia continued its poor performance streak against Vietnam in the 2012 AFF Futsal Cup semifinals. In the match held in Bangkok, Indonesia lost to Vietnam with a score of 3-5," the newspaper provided statistics.
"Therefore, the 2026 AFF Futsal semifinals will be an opportunity for Indonesia's national futsal team to break their poor record against Vietnam. Previously, Indonesia defeated Vietnam 3-2 in the 2026 Asian Futsal quarterfinals at Indonesia Arena in Jakarta earlier in February," CNN Indonesia emphasized.
