Legend Paul Scholes believes Manchester United needs to conduct a large-scale squad overhaul during the summer transfer window. The former English midfielder pointed out a series of players he believes should leave Old Trafford to facilitate rebuilding the team under the new coaching staff.
Currently, Manchester United is still led by interim manager Michael Carrick, and it is unclear who will take the coaching seat when the club begins its summer recruitment plan. Although the midfield is seen as an area requiring significant investment, offloading players is also crucial to free up salary funds and create space in the squad.
Carrick's team will have three weeks without matches before hosting Leeds United next Monday. During this period, MU has moved to Dublin for intensive training, preparing for the decisive phase. Concurrently, numerous transfer stories have emerged around Old Trafford, notably including Scholes' strong viewpoint.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes
In the "keep or sell" segment of the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, alongside Nicky Butt and host Paddy McGuinness, Scholes bluntly stated that MU should part ways with eight first-team players. His list includes Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Patrick Dorgu, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Manuel Ugarte, and Joshua Zirkzee. Scholes repeatedly chose "sell," exceeding the predictions of viewers following the program.
Some names like Zirkzee or Mazraoui could leave the team after seeing reduced playing time this season. However, Harry Maguire's situation has an unexpected development. The English defender recently signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United, as his previous deal was nearing expiration. The club also has the option to extend it for another year.
At 33 years old, Maguire is experiencing a strong resurgence under Carrick. Manchester United has climbed to third place in the standings, with the English defender playing a key role. After signing the new contract, Maguire expressed pride in continuing his association with the club.
"Representing Manchester United is the greatest honor. It is a responsibility that makes me and my family proud every day. I am delighted to extend my journey at this fantastic club to at least eight seasons and continue playing before these exceptional supporters to create more memorable moments."
Maguire also emphasized the team's ambition: "You can sense the desire and potential of this squad. The determination to compete for major trophies is present throughout the entire club. I believe our finest moments are still ahead."
Scholes' perspective highlights that the pressure for reconstruction at Old Trafford remains immense, even as the team improves its league position. Therefore, the summer transfer window promises to be a pivotal period shaping Manchester United's future.
