According to British media reports, Manchester United began the process of identifying a new manager in April. Among them, Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has rejected Manchester United's approach via intermediaries and will renew his contract to stay at the Parc des Princes. Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic confirms: "I spoke with people at Paris Saint-Germain, and they firmly stated that Enrique will sign a new contract with them."

He explained: "I am certain there are people within Manchester United who highly admire Enrique, but whether that means Manchester United will actually initiate negotiations and actively pursue him is another matter. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have a good relationship; obviously, several individuals in Manchester United's management previously worked at Paris Saint-Germain. So I don't think this would be any malicious poaching attempt to lure him away. Enrique's own willingness in this regard is certainly the key factor."
French newspaper L'Équipe reports that PSG has offered an astonishing contract that will ensure Enrique becomes the highest-paid manager in Ligue 1, with a new three-year contract worth an annual salary of 20 million euros! This makes Enrique earn more than PSG's star player Ousmane Dembélé, whose annual salary is 18 million euros.
Now, the only competitor for Carrick's permanent appointment appears to be Germany national team manager Nagelsmann. However, whether this 39-year-old young manager can settle his future before the World Cup remains a huge question mark. That would not align with Manchester United's manager selection plan, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS wish to determine the team's "leader" for next season as early as possible.
Within Manchester United's dressing room, according to wingers Amad Diallo and Mbeumo, players generally believe Carrick is the "destined choice" to continue as manager next season. He was originally not considered to have a chance for a permanent role, but Manchester United currently ranks third in the Premier League table with seven matches remaining, holding strong hopes of returning to the Champions League after a two-year absence, which has altered his future.

At the training camp press conference in Ireland, Manchester United players Amad and Mbeumo both publicly expressed support for Carrick becoming the permanent manager. Amad said: "Obviously, deciding his future is not something we players should do, but his work has always been excellent. He has contributed greatly to the team, is experienced, understands the club, and has always been here. We think he is the right person, and everyone is very satisfied with what he is doing now. We have worked with him before, played under his guidance, and that experience was good. Although the final decision is not in our hands, the players will try to learn as much as possible from him."
When asked whether discussions in the dressing room include the topic of the manager's appointment, Amad replied: "As I said earlier, he understands the club, played for Manchester United as a player, and he has rich experience to manage this club. His coaching tenure is short, but he has performed exceptionally well, and he has a good relationship with every player. Sometimes you need such a coach to lead the club to the heights it deserves. Personally, I think he is the right person, but ultimately the decision is not in the players' hands."
Manchester United's dressing room has a six-person leadership group, including captain Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez, Diogo Dalot, Mazraoui, and Tom Heaton. It is currently unclear whether Manchester United's board will consult them during the manager selection process.
Amad added: "I think the club will make a decision after the season ends, but I genuinely feel we are very happy to have Michael as the manager, that's it. Since arriving at the club, he has always clearly stated he wants to win, he wants to qualify for the Champions League next season, and he has been working hard with every player. So his performance has been excellent, and we are pleased to have him as the manager."

Mbeumo said: "He understands how the club operates and knows how to communicate with us. And I think because he is familiar with the environment, working with him is easier and goes smoothly."
