The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) awarded an immediate bonus to the U20 women's team following their 1-0 win against Bangladesh on April 7.
In the final match of Group A at the 2026 AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup, the Vietnam U20 women's team secured a valuable 1-0 victory over Bangladesh, reigniting hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals.
Right after the starting whistle, the Vietnam U20 women's team proactively pushed their formation forward and organized attacks. In the 9th minute, Ngân Thị Thanh Hiếu had an opportunity to penetrate the penalty area, but her final move was not quite effective. Shortly after, Bangladesh responded with a shot aimed at goalkeeper Lê Thị Thu.
In the 18th minute, Lưu Hoàng Vân skillfully dribbled past opposing players and unleashed a dangerous strike, but the referee ruled it offside. By the 21st minute, Lưu Hoàng Vân unfortunately missed a chance when her volley went over the crossbar in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Despite controlling the game and creating numerous opportunities, the Vietnam U20 women's team still could not score in the first half.
Entering the second half, the Vietnam U20 women's team continued to maintain pressure and soon concretized their advantage. In the 49th minute, from a long-range free-kick situation, the Bangladesh goalkeeper failed to hold the ball, Thuỳ Linh quickly rushed in and decisively finished, opening the score for the red-shirted team. That also became the final score of the match.
With this result, Vietnam U20 has 3 points and is temporarily leading among the best third-placed teams. Coach Okiyama and his team will continue to await results from the remaining groups to determine the possibility of securing a quarter-final spot through the best third-place qualification. Two matches in Group B between Uzbekistan and Jordan at 20:00 and in Group C between Chinese Taipei and India at 16:00.
Notably after the match, Vice President of VFF Trần Anh Tú directly met and conveyed congratulations from the Standing Committee and President of VFF Trần Quốc Tuấn to the entire team. Vice President Trần Anh Tú stated that the Standing Committee of the VFF Executive Board acknowledged the players' efforts and awarded an encouragement bonus of 300 million VND. This demonstrates the deep concern from the Federation leadership towards the U20 women's team.
