Vietnam Women's U20 Coach Hopeful to Advance

Following a 1-0 victory over Bangladesh Women's U20 in the final group A match of the 2026 AFC Women's U20 Asian Cup, head coach Okiyama Masahiko expressed satisfaction with the competitive spirit and efforts of the Vietnam Women's U20 players, particularly in the second half.

"The players tried their utmost and we secured 3 points. In the first half, the players' performance was not optimal, and after entering the locker room, I motivated them to regain their spirit, making them more confident. In the second half, the players performed very well. I am very satisfied with that.

We had many scoring opportunities but couldn't convert them. We also knew Bangladesh's goalkeeper played exceptionally well.

Regarding the opponent Bangladesh Women's U20, Coach Okiyama noted that this team possesses good physical fitness and speed, playing fiercely. "They have speed and stamina. In the recent match, they played very aggressively. In the second half, they slightly adjusted their tactics, so perhaps they weren't fully accustomed and didn't perform as well.

If we advance, our opponents will be Japan or Australia. Both are strong teams among Asia's top tier. However, we still have time to prepare well and will strive to compete."

Vice President Tran Anh Tu stated that the Standing Committee of the VFF Executive Board acknowledged the players' competitive efforts and awarded an encouragement bonus of 300 million VND.

Coach Polking Has a New Assistant

After parting with assistant coach Luis Viegas, CAHN Club promptly found a new person to support Coach Polking, namely assistant Mavi Lopes, a Brazilian.

With extensive experience working in South American and Asian football environments, Mr. Mavi Lopes is expected to be a quality addition to the coaching staff during the crucial phase of the season.

Before joining CAHN Club, Mr. Mavi Lopes was the head coach of Muang Trang United Club in Thailand's third division. This coach has considerable experience leading teams in Thailand, but mostly smaller clubs, and currently holds only an AFC C-level coaching license.

On the V-League standings after 17 rounds, CAHN Club leads with 44 points, 8 points ahead of second-placed The Cong Viettel.

On April 12 in round 18, CAHN Club will visit PVF CAND

"Vietnam is a good team; they have been playing together for nearly two years and are in a very stable phase, with high mutual understanding. But between Thailand and Vietnam, there is always the element of honor. It truly is a matter of honor.

For me, of course we want to top the group, but we also need to rotate the squad to conserve energy for the next round.

In the final match, regardless of the opponent, our goal remains victory. Whether Vietnam rotates players or not, we will certainly compete with full effort, for our honor."

In Group A of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, both Vietnam and Thailand teams have 6 points after two matches played.

The Vietnam team, with a goal difference of (+10), is ranked above the host Thailand (+5).
