The decisive 7-1 victory over Timor Leste not only brought Vietnam's futsal team closer to securing a semifinal ticket but also prepared them to face Thailand in the match at 20:00 tonight (April 8).
Yesterday afternoon (April 7), Vietnam's futsal team easily defeated Timor Leste 7-1 in the second match of Group A of the 2026 Southeast Asian Championship. This was not merely a victory in terms of score, but also a strong affirmation of the ambitions of Coach Giustozzi and his team in this year's tournament.
From the very first minutes, Vietnam Futsal demonstrated complete dominance. Their high-pressure play, proactive ball control, and quick combinations left Timor Leste almost no chance to develop their game plan. Within just the first 6 minutes, Coach Diego's players scored two consecutive goals thanks to Minh Quang and Thinh Phat, laying the foundation for a dominant match.
The most positive aspect of the team in this match was their finishing ability. Compared to the opening match where the attackers missed quite a few opportunities, against Timor Leste, Coach Diego's team showed clear improvement. The four goals in the first half, scored by Minh Quang, Thinh Phat, Da Hai, and Quang Nguyen, clearly demonstrated the upgraded sharpness.
In the second half, the match situation did not change much. Vietnam Futsal continued to control the game, while Timor Leste had to push forward and accept risks. This opened up more space, allowing Cong Vien, Cong Dai, and then Thac Hieu to score successively, raising the score to 7-0 before the opponent scored a consolation goal at the end of the match.

Beyond just the result, this victory also brings many positive signals regarding the squad. Young faces like Thac Hieu, Cong Dai, and Da Hai all made their mark with confidence and effectiveness. This is an important foundation for Vietnam Futsal to aim for long-term goals.
Compared to the previous match, where host Thailand only defeated Timor Leste 4-1, Vietnam's performance was clearly more impressive. This somewhat indicates that the balance of power in the region is gradually changing. In the context of Indonesia's futsal team emerging as a new force, Thailand no longer maintains its absolute superiority as before.
Nevertheless, the biggest challenge for Vietnam Futsal still lies ahead, as they will face host Thailand in the final group stage match tonight. This is considered the "final" of Group A, where the two teams compete for the top spot, and the winner could advance further by avoiding Indonesia in the semifinals.
Thailand still holds the advantage of home ground and star player Muhammad Osamanmusa. He is a world-class player with a very high ability to create breakthroughs. However, looking at recent form, the team from the Land of Golden Temples has shown signs of stagnation over the past two years. That is an opportunity for Vietnam Futsal to make a difference.
The challenge for Coach Diego and his team is maintaining focus and finishing efficiency. If they continue to play with high intensity, good organization, and capitalize on opportunities as in this match, Vietnam Futsal can certainly aim for a victory.
