Real Madrid defender admits team 'gave away' two goals to Bayern, praises Neuer extensively

Antonio Rudiger stated that Real Madrid did not play well against Bayern Munich in the first leg of this season's Champions League quarter-final.

Real Madrid lost 1-2 at home to Bayern Munich in the first leg of this season's Champions League quarter-final. Bayern Munich led 2-0 after 46 minutes thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Harry Kane. Mbappe scored in the 74th minute to narrow the deficit, giving Real Madrid hope for the second leg.

After the match, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger expressed disappointment about the loss. "We entered the second half and immediately conceded a goal. Both conceded goals were 'gifts' handed to the opponent. We should have shown more in the second half," Rudiger said on Movistar.

Both Bayern Munich goals originated from situations where they stole the ball near midfield. Rudiger commented: "We had discussed this issue, that the whole team must not lose the ball like that. Because at this level, it is extremely dangerous. And indeed it happened."

Rudiger believes Bayern Munich goalkeeper Neuer played well: "We needed to shoot more but accurately. However, today the standout player on Bayern's side was goalkeeper Neuer."

After Mbappe reduced the deficit, Rudiger regretted that Real Madrid could not score any other goals in the match: "The most important thing is still breaking the deadlock. We had opportunities to score more goals, but ultimately, football is like that."

"Of course, I still have faith," Rudiger said about Real Madrid's chances to turn the situation around in the second leg next week.
