Thailand wins a hard-fought match, Vietnam officially advances to the semifinals

Thailand's 2-0 win against Myanmar simultaneously sends both this squad and the Vietnam national team into the semifinals of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal competition.

The Thailand futsal team endured a challenging match against Myanmar but still secured a 2-0 victory, thereby early clinching a ticket to the semifinals of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, alongside the Vietnam futsal team.

Despite being rated higher and having home advantage, Thailand struggled to dominate the game against Myanmar. The visiting team played with discipline, defended tightly, and caused Thailand's attackers significant difficulties in finding paths to the goal.

For most of the match duration, Thailand maintained superior ball control but lacked sharpness in finishing. Only in the second half did they capitalize on opportunities to score two consecutive goals, thereby deciding the match's outcome.

This victory ensures Thailand, together with the Vietnam futsal team – which has won both its initial matches – officially qualifies for the semifinals early. Therefore, the upcoming clash between the two teams on the evening of April 8th will solely determine the top position in Group A.

In Group B, the two semifinal spots belong to Australia and Indonesia, promising to create exciting contests in the upcoming knockout round. With a slightly better goal difference, the Vietnam futsal team only needs to avoid losing to Thailand in the final match to secure a semifinal berth as the group winner.

Of course, both Thailand and the Vietnam futsal team wish to avoid facing Indonesia from the semifinals onward. This is the reigning champion of the tournament, having defeated Thailand in the semifinals and Vietnam in the finals two years ago. Indonesia, if performing according to its actual strength, should not find it difficult to defeat Australia in the final match to top Group B.
