Vietnam continues to demonstrate impressive form by overwhelming Timor-Leste with a 7-1 score in the second match of Group A of the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship.
The decisive victory not only helps coach Diego Giustozzi's team secure an early ticket to the semifinals but also builds strong psychological momentum ahead of the crucial showdown with Thailand.
Against an underestimated opponent, Vietnam's futsal team quickly imposed their dominance right after the opening whistle. Within just the first 6 minutes, the red-shirted players scored twice. In the 4th minute, Minh Quang opened the scoring with a tricky low shot following a sideline combination. Two minutes later, Thinh Phát doubled the lead with a decisive long-range strike.
With an early advantage, Vietnam slowed the pace, maintained solid ball control, yet kept sufficient pressure. Timor-Leste's defensive mistakes were swiftly punished. In the 13th minute, Da Hai seized an opportunity to make it 3-0, before Quang Nguyên closed the first half with a fourth goal in the 19th minute.

Entering the second half, the match dynamics saw little change as Vietnam continued their complete dominance. In the 26th minute, Cong Viên neatly finished to raise the score to 5-0. Just two minutes later, Cong Dai added another long-range masterpiece, widening the gap to 6-0.
In their effort to find a consolation goal, Timor-Leste had to adopt a power-play tactic from midway through the second half. However, pushing their formation higher cost them dearly. In the 33rd minute, Thac Hieu scored to make it 7-0 with a precise finish. Late efforts only allowed Timor-Leste a consolation goal in the 36th minute.
The 7-1 victory gives Vietnam's futsal team 6 points after two matches, widely opening the door to the semifinals. More importantly, this convincing performance is seen as a clear "warning" to host Thailand, their direct competitor for the top spot in Group A.
The final match clash between Vietnam and Thailand not only determines the group winner but also serves as a crucial "final rehearsal" for championship ambitions. With their current form, Vietnam's futsal team has solid grounds to confidently aim for a positive result against a regional rival with a long history of encounters.
