Coach Carlo Ancelotti faces severe criticism over Neymar

Neymar's omission from the Brazil team stirs debate, with iconic figure Romario openly condemning Coach Carlo Ancelotti's choice.

Neymar's removal from the latest Brazil national team call-up list has ignited intense controversy, especially when legend Romario publicly rebukes Coach Carlo Ancelotti and urges him to "pay attention."

The decision not to call up Neymar for the March friendly matches has caused a stir in South American public opinion. Although the 34-year-old forward has just returned from a serious knee injury sustained since late 2023, Coach Ancelotti appears to prioritize players with better physical condition and give opportunities to younger talents. However, this move has not gained approval from many Brazilian former stars.

In an interview with the press, Romario, the hero of the 1994 World Cup, expressed clear frustration. He believes the national team should always gather the best players, regardless of imperfect physical condition. “A star must play. The national team is for the best players. Having Neymar even if not at 100% is better than choosing someone less talented,” Romario emphasized.

This legend also believes Neymar can regain his touch and fitness during the preparation period before the 2026 World Cup. He expects the forward, currently playing for Santos FC, to prove his worth in the Brazilian national league to reclaim a spot in the final squad, thereby helping Selecao conquer their sixth world championship. “My message is very clear: pay attention, Coach!”,Romario issued a warning.

Not only Romario, legend Ronaldo Nazario also voiced support for Neymar, albeit with a milder perspective. “If Neymar reaches good physical condition, I would definitely take him to the World Cup. He doesn’t need to prove anything more,” Ronaldo shared, highlighting the established caliber of the striker who has scored 79 goals in 128 matches for the national team.

On Neymar's side, the immediate goal is to demonstrate form to dispel doubts. Although he has shown his class with 3 goals and 1 assist in a few matches in the Brazilian Serie A, he has also missed many games due to fitness issues.

Meanwhile, the upcoming friendly matches against strong opponents will be a crucial test for Ancelotti, as he seeks to build a new Brazil team that can operate smoothly even without its biggest icon.
