Following a lengthy period away because of injury, defender Doan Van Hau has officially rejoined the Vietnam national team, signifying a significant point in his professional journey.
Due to playing the postponed match of Round 13 of the V-League against SHB Da Nang Club at Chi Lang Stadium, seven players from the police sector team were the last to join the national team camp. After completing their duties with their club, Doan Van Hau, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Quang Hai, Cao Pendant Quang Vinh, Le Pham Thanh Long, Tran Dinh Trong, and Nguyen Filip will join their teammates today, March 23.
Among them, the return of defender Doan Van Hau draws strong attention. Sharing on social media, Van Hau wrote: "It's been a long time" along with the Vietnam national teamuniform.
The last time he was called up was in June 2023, under coach Philippe Troussier. At that time, he played 63 minutes in the friendly match where Syria was defeated 1-0. Thus, he has been absent from the national team for nearly three years.
Van Hau suffered Achilles tendon inflammation in September 2023. However, the injury was more complex than initially assessed, forcing this defender to go to Singapore for examination and undergo multiple surgeries. He returned to play his first official match on December 3, 2025, when CAHN drew 1-1 with Buriram United in the Southeast Asian Club Cup 2025/26.
Recently, Van Hau made an impressive comeback in the CAHN Club jersey, scoring one goal and providing one assist after 10 appearances across all competitions. His consistent contributions in both attack and defense over this period helped him earn a recall to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim Sang-sik.
Van Hau's return is expected to enhance the depth of the Vietnam national team's squad, as the team aims for important goals in the coming period. Simultaneously, this is a positive signal regarding personnel, as one of the experienced defenders is ready to return to the pitch after a challenging recovery journey.
According to the plan, the Vietnam national team will continue to complete its squad in the coming days, before entering the friendly match against Bangladesh at Hang Day Stadium on March 26. This will be an important preparatory step for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team as they look ahead to the rematch with Malaysia in the final qualifying round for the Asian Cup 2027.
