The first meeting of the National Coaches Council in 2026: Strengthening advisory functions and directing holistic development of Vietnamese football operations
On March 24, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the first meeting of the National Coaches Council in 2026 took place, aiming to evaluate the work of the first three months of the year and define key directions and tasks for the upcoming period.
Reports presented at the meeting showed that in the first three months of 2026, the National Coaches Council closely collaborated with various departments and functional offices of the VFF to effectively implement many key tasks. Coach training continued to be intensified with the organization and planning of C, B, and A certificate courses according to AFC/VFF standards in many localities; simultaneously, it contributed to building the instructor team, selecting trainees, and enhancing professional quality. Additionally, the Council actively participated in consulting and supporting coaching work.
For national teams, from the men's and women's teams to U23, U19, and U20 women's teams. Notably, Council members directly engaged in professional work at many clubs and national teams, helping to strengthen the connection between the training system and high-level competition. At the meeting, thematic reports provided a comprehensive overview of coach training activities and the operations of national teams.
The instructor system continued to be reinforced with the participation of domestic and international experts, including those holding FIFA certificates. Training work in 2026 was systematically structured with courses at various levels, including specialized programs for fitness coaches, goalkeeping coaches, futsal, and beach soccer.
At the national team level, Vietnamese football recorded many highlights in the first quarter of 2026. The U23 men's team won the Bronze medal at the 2026 AFC U23 Asian Championship after defeating South Korea's U23 team, while youth teams and futsal teams continued regular competition and training activities. However, women's football faces the need for restructuring, aiming for long-term goals in a new development cycle.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the direction for utilizing coaches for national teams in the coming time, emphasizing the requirement to enhance professional quality, strengthen succession planning, and develop domestic coaching staff, while proactively integrating with modern coaching trends.
