Manchester United faces unfortunate news as Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo simultaneously withdraw from their national teams due to injuries, amid the club's intense battle for a Champions League spot.
Manchester United has confirmed that two key forwards, Benjamin Sesko and Bryan Mbeumo, have withdrawn from the March national team camp due to injuries. This is a significant loss for the "Red Devils" as both have played crucial roles in the team's strong resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick.
After a disappointing start to the 2025/26 season under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's leadership decided to sack the Portuguese strategist and appoint Carrick until the end of the season. This decision quickly proved effective as the Old Trafford side climbed to 3rd place in thePremier League standings before the March international break.
Bryan Mbeumo, a new signing from Brentford, has shown consistent form with 10 goals across all competitions. Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko, after a difficult start, rediscovered his scoring touch, notably with 6 goals in the first two months of 2026.
However, both will not join their national teams during the upcoming FIFA Days. According to the club's announcement, Mbeumo withdrew from the Cameroon squad as a precaution after being substituted in the 71st minute during the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. Sesko also will not participate in Slovenia's friendly matches to ensure full recovery from an injury that has been monitored recently.
On the other hand, defender Noussair Mazraoui has recovered from illness and will join the Morocco national team, preparing for friendly matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
In the draw with Bournemouth, Manchester United led 2-1 thanks to a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a goal from James Hill, but was held back after Eli Junior Kroupi scored from a penalty.
Nevertheless, this result does not significantly impact the "Red Devils" race for a top 4 position. Liverpool and Chelsea both losing in the same round helps Manchester United maintain a 5-point gap from the 5th place as the season has only 7 rounds remaining.
After the national team break, Carrick's squad will enter a critical phase with two important matches: hosting Leeds United at home before traveling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. With no cup competitions to worry about, Manchester United can fully focus on securing a Champions League spot for next season.
