Another new Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper has been called up to the Vietnam youth national team.

The Vietnam U19 national team is preparing to welcome another notable Vietnamese-origin player in the upcoming supplemental training camp. Goalkeeper Aaron Tu Vinh Napierala is expected to bring a fresh breeze to the youth team's goal.

Vietnam U19 calls up a Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper of Canadian descent.

According to the plan, in the second gathering scheduled for next week, coach Yukata Ikeuchi will call up approximately 10 additional players. Most are names who performed notably for the Vietnam U17 team at the 2025 AFC U17 Asian Cup, such as Gia Bao, Viet Anh, or Duy Khang. Additionally, the coaching staff is also extending opportunities to some new talents to increase competition within the squad.

The highlight of this supplemental call-up is the appearance of Vietnamese-origin goalkeeper Aaron Tu Vinh Napierala. Born in 2007, he has a Canadian father and a Vietnamese mother and currently holds dual citizenship. Before returning to Vietnam, Aaron was trained in football environments in Canada and Spain, thereby accumulating experience and refining his skills.

In 2024, this 1.83m tall goalkeeper had a trial with Ho Chi Minh City FC and received positive feedback. However, as he still needed more time to develop professionally and physically, he was not retained for the first team. Subsequently, Aaron was facilitated to join a domestic academy to continue his training.

Notably, in this current Vietnam U19 training camp list, there are up to three Vietnamese-origin players, including two goalkeepers. Besides Aaron, there is Nguyen Ba Nhat Ka – who possesses a height nearing 2m and is currently playing football at a high school in Japan.

The remaining case is midfielder Antonio Moric, a player developed in the training environment of Croatia. With an impressive performance in the very first training session, Moric was promoted to the Vietnam U23 team to continue improving alongside his senior teammates.
