Indonesian newspaper predicts surprising outcome of Vietnam vs Malaysia match

Indonesian media asserts that the Vietnamese national team will fully exploit their home advantage at Thiên Trường Stadium to secure a dominant victory, thereby directly "punishing" Malaysian football following the cheating scandal.

The rematch between the Vietnamese national team and Malaysia in Group F of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on March 31st is becoming the focal point of regional media attention. Beyond its professional significance, this confrontation is also tinged with drama after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) imposed a severe penalty on Malaysia for using an ineligible player.

Malaysian football is experiencing its darkest period in its 100-year history. From a leading position in the group with 15 points, they were penalized by AFC with a 0-3 loss in matches against Nepal and Vietnam, causing their points to drop to 9 and officially eliminating them from the 2027 Asian Cup finals. The Indonesian publication Bola Sport comments: "The Vietnamese national team is reportedly ready to 'handily defeat' Malaysia to inflict further pain on their opponent".

Malaysian football expert, Mr. Zulakbal Abdul Karim, also acknowledged the outrage of his nation's fans: "Malaysia is perhaps at its worst moment... since the match-fixing scandal in the 1990s". Being stripped of the 4-0 victory in the first leg is not only a points loss but also a severe blow to the national football's pride.

While the opponent is in crisis, the Vietnamese national team has risen to top the group with 15 points and early qualification. However, theoretical "comfort" does not diminish Coach Kim Sang Sik's desire for victory. According to Indonesian media, the S-shaped team wants a big win to reclaim honor after the 0-4 defeat on away turf in the first leg.

Regional experts assess Vietnam has many advantages to secure victory

The publication Bola Sport comments: "The Vietnamese national team is craving a convincing victory to punish the Malaysian team". This determination is further reinforced by dominant head-to-head statistics: over the past 12 years, Malaysia has never beaten Vietnam in official competitions, with 8 losses and only 1 draw.

Expert Zulakbal believes: "Coach Kim Sang-sik and his teammates are waiting at home to continue punishing Malaysia with another overwhelming victory".

Although the group outcome is already decided, Thiên Trường Stadium (Ninh Bình) is predicted to still be very heated on March 31st. For Vietnam, this is an opportunity to affirm true strength and advance on the FIFA rankings. For Malaysia, this is the final match for them to fight for remaining honor.

As Mr. Zulakbal emphasized: "The players must compete for national pride". However, facing a Vietnam brimming with momentum, the "Harimau Malaya's" goal of taking points away appears to be an overwhelming challenge.
