MU furious over referee's controversial decision in draw against Bournemouth

Manchester United could not conceal their frustration following the intense 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, where the referee's calls sparked major debate. Temporary coach Michael Carrick voiced sharp criticism of the match management, arguing that his side faced significant unfairness from inconsistent rulings.

The turning point of the match came when MU was leading 1-0. In an attacking move, Amad Diallo appeared to be pulled and pushed inside the penalty area, but after consulting VAR, referee Stuart Attwell decided not to award a penalty to the visiting team, claiming insufficient impact. Later in the match, a nearly identical situation occurred on the other side, when Harry Maguire fouled Bournemouth striker Evanilson. This time, Attwell毫不犹豫 pointed to the penalty spot and also sent off the English defender.

The contrasting decisions in two similar incidents left coach Carrick unable to remain calm. He shared: "In my view, both deserved to be penalties. This was an extremely crucial moment in the match, and afterwards everything became chaotic. I don't understand how one incident can be called and the other overlooked. That is unbelievable."

MU believes they should have been awarded a penalty in that situation.

Not only Carrick, captain Bruno Fernandes also expressed disappointment. He argued that if one incident was penalized, the other should have been treated similarly, and questioned the role of VAR in not intervening in Diallo's incident.

The consequence of these decisions was that MU, from a position where they could have led 2-1, ended up tied 2-2, thus dropping two regrettable points. However, Carrick still praised the fighting spirit of his players, especially as the team had to play with 10 men for a long period after Maguire's red card.

"We had to make many adjustments when down to 10 players, but the players, especially those coming off the bench, did very well to secure a point. The final minutes were very difficult, but the whole team defended resiliently," he added.

From another perspective, expert Jamie Redknapp believed the decision not to award a penalty in Diallo's situation was reasonable. He assessed that although there was contact, the degree was insufficient to warrant a penalty.

After this match, MU enters the national team break holding third place in the standings, with 55 points, trailing leaders Arsenal by 15 points and Manchester City by 6 points. Nevertheless, Carrick believes this break will not disrupt the team's momentum, and they will be ready for the next match against Leeds United.
