The legendary figure of the Premier League sets an unbreakable record in the Champions League

Mohamed Salah further solidifies his iconic status at Liverpool by etching his name into Champions League history during a 4-0 victory over Galatasaray at Anfield. Not only playing a crucial role in helping The Reds reverse the situation to advance to the quarter-finals, the Egyptian star also becomes the first African player to reach 50 goals in the Champions League.

Entering the second leg of the round of 16 with a disadvantage from a 1-0 loss in the first leg, Liverpool needed a strong comeback. Under manager Arne Slot, the team quickly leveled the tie thanks to a superb goal from Dominik Szoboszlai in the first half.

Just before halftime, Liverpool had an opportunity to take the lead when awarded a penalty. Salah stepped up to take the 11-meter shot, but his attempt was saved by the opposing goalkeeper. Nevertheless, that was a rare moment when the home team at Anfield faltered.

Previously, Salah was already the greatest African scorer in the tournament's history. With this new milestone, he extended the gap over the second-placed Didier Drogba to 6 goals. The Ivorian legend scored 44 goals in 92 European matches. Following Drogba is Samuel Eto'o with 30 goals, while Sadio Mane has 27, with 24 of those scored while playing for Liverpool.

However, Liverpool's joy on that historic night was not complete. In the 73rd minute, Salah had to leave the field due to signs of a groin injury. He was substituted for Cody Gakpo and went straight into the tunnel for treatment.

Currently, the extent of Salah's injury is not yet clear, but Liverpool will certainly pray for their top star to recover quickly for the match against Brighton in the Premier League this weekend.

Despite having secured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals, Liverpool must now focus on qualifying for next season's tournament, as they are currently 5th in the Premier League – a position considered the borderline for Champions League qualification.
