Immediately after his reelection, President Joan Laporta officially confirmed the retention of coach Hansi Flick until 2028, solidifying the foundation for Barcelona's ambition to dominate European football.
Barcelona is entering a promising new chapter of stability and success. In his latest speech on RAC1 after being reelected as club president, Joan Laporta dispelled all speculation about the future of the coaching staff by stating:
“We want to extend Flick's contract until 2028. Hansi supports the extension; we may announce it soon because he feels very comfortable.”
This decision is seen as an absolute acknowledgment of the extraordinary achievements the German strategist has brought to Camp Nou. In a short time, Hansi Flick has transformed Barcelona into a true "war machine" with a glorious domestic treble last season.
Entering this season, the strength of Blaugrana has not diminished as they dominate La Liga with a 4-point gap over the chasing pack and proudly advance to the round of 16 Champions League.
The interesting aspect of this contract lies in Flick's working philosophy. The 61-year-old strategist does not prioritize long-term commitments to maintain flexibility and competitive drive.
However, given the absolute harmony with the leadership and the project of building a team around young talents, Flick agreed to extend his journey by another season (from 2027 to 2028). Laporta also emphasized the importance of the connection between Flick and Sporting Director Deco: “I also very much want to extend with Deco. The collaboration with Flick is going very well.”
This agreement was essentially finalized from a private meeting in February between Laporta, Flick, and super-agent Pini Zahavi. The German strategist had stated he would only continue if Laporta's project remained intact.
Now, with that condition fulfilled, Flick's greatest ambition is to guide Barcelona's promising young players to reach for the prestigious Champions League trophy. With Flick committing to the future, Barcelona is sending a strong threatening message to all of European football about the return of a royal status.
