OFFICIAL: Malaysia forfeits 0-3 to Vietnam national team

AFC officially penalizes Malaysia with forfeits in two Asian Cup 2027 qualifying matches due to fielding an ineligible player.

According to the decision announced by the AFC Disciplinary & Ethics Committee on Tuesday, FAM was found to have violated Article 56 of the AFC Disciplinary & Ethics Code by allowing an ineligible player to participate in two matches of the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.

The two matches involved include Malaysia's 2-0 victory over Nepal at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on March 25, 2025, and the emphatic 4-0 win against Vietnam at Bukit Jalil Stadium on June 10, 2025. However, both results were annulled as AFC ruled Malaysia forfeited 0-3 in each match under Article 25.1 of the Disciplinary & Ethics Code.

This decision delivers a heavy blow to Malaysia's qualifying campaign, severely impacting their chances of securing a spot in the finals in Saudi Arabia. Not only receiving two technical defeats, FAM was also fined 50,000 USD (approximately 196,119 RM), placing continued pressure on the organization.

Meanwhile, FAM stated it will request AFC to provide explanatory documentation before considering next steps, including the possibility of appeal. Given the current situation, Malaysia's path to the Asian Cup 2027 is nearly closed after the 6 points earned were deducted.
